When I mentioned that the requirement to stay on campus and cost of so, changes the context of the program. But I was never given an actual reason past "it's just how it works". I probed a bit further as this seemed rather shocking to me, considering Kripalu's message. When I called to inquire if I would be able to sleep off campus and waive their meal plan, as my home was 8 minutes from this institute, they told me no. The least expensive was 81 a night (adding a little over 2k to the tuition cost) most expensive would take the training price to very close $10,000. In the confirmation email I received a link was provided to view their housing options. It’s more than 2800 and that should be specified before applying. Simply because the requirement to sleep on campus is not mentioned, it’s implied that housing is optional and seemingly the price listed for training is not correct. For reference: for every other training I’ve applied and be accepted to, the total price was available upfront for all housing options. Well, after I was accepted I'd have to budget to the point of eating less, but it would have been worth it! The requirement to stay on campus is not mentioned before you apply, and the the tuition price was the only one listed. 2800 for their tuition is steeper than most trainings I have seen, but still accessible in my case. It is severely disappointing to learn that a requirement for their 200 hour teacher training to sleep on campus. I am really disappointed and won't ever return.… My sisters have been frequent visitors to Kripalu. In January I bought my son a $300 gift certificate to Kripalu. The instructor for Intermediate Yoga on Sunday did not show up. We were told we could use the men's sauna. I spent approximately $1000 for the weekend as did my sisters. I was told they were aware of my situation but they wouldn't honor the certificates. When I got to Kripalu, I asked the receptionist who talked to the manager. It's that they couldn't even kindly reply. It's not that Kripalu wouldn't honor the certificates. I'm from Connecticut where gift certificates, by law, can't expire. Massachusetts has a seven year limit on gift certificates. didn't have the common courtesy/decency to respond to any of my inquiries. Kripalu which preaches kindness, goodwill, peace etc. I called Kripalu at least five times, emailed at least five times, and snail-mailed once to inquire as to whether they'd honor the certificates - at least some kind of compensation for my sister's because she died one year after having received it. I recently planned a trip to Kripalu with two other sisters. The following year, in 2010, my sister died from metastatic breast cancer so we did not use the certificates. In 2009, my sister and I received gift certificates of $150 each to Kripalu. Shame that their Human Resources dept, which I assume they now have, doesn't understand the incredible legacy that they are not protecting.… Managers have not yet called back, despite my being directed to them at my request by staff. I will still go because the place was so great for so long, and even if they capitulated to the dollar ( with the meat and the ubiquitous cell phones etc- they were so unique before) I have high expectations but feel I must steer clear of the desk as much as possible to avoid any toxicity. Maybe the pandemic created more openings than people qualified to fill them but a truly compassionate 18 year old would do better than some that I spoke to. The more you have gone in the past the more you can see how information is insufficient because you know the scope of the place. The last person insisted that no one in their staff lacks knowledge or makes an error lol- and blamed me for the confusion. I have not gotten there yet but my booking experience confirms what others say Why spend millions on marketing when you hire people who don 't understand the values, have no customer service training and are in some cases downright rude? I wouldn't have had to make so many calls if the website /catolog weren't incomplete, and then each staff member contradicts what is in there or each other. The folks there used to be kind and informed- they were part of the restorative experience. I have been to Kripalu at least 15 times since the 90s. This is ONLY about the front desk staff and website/catalog.
